Sep 15, 2006

Redred,

Sep 16, 2006

Pei Ling,

redred,

$10 could buy a decent meal in most places in the United States nowadays. At upscale restaurants, a lot of menu items are still in the $10 to $20 range, even with inflation rearing its ugly head in recent years. BTW, I'm not talking about those exclusive, ritzy haute cuisine places where suit and tie is required just to get in the door.

For most Americans, Chinese food served at your average local Chinese restaurants would be plenty good. The entrees at these restaurants are typically priced around $10 or under.

Your average Joe isn't picky enough to seek out genuine Chinese food such as 正宗粤菜. I myself haven't been to a Chinatown ever since I left New York more than a decade ago. Back then I used to drive down to New York City on occasion. While there, I would seldom miss making a trip over to Mott Street, the main drag of Manhattan's Chinatown. As Yueyin mentioned, the food at some of these restaurants was superb, IMO good enough to satisfy the most discriminating palate. Still, the prices were very reasonable and affordable.

Incidentally... And I thought $25 mooncakes for a giftbox of 4 was expensive. Looks like I got a bargain compared to the ¥2815 they are charging in 南京 these days.

Chinese buffet, all you can eat! Sep 16, 2006

(Click on the Menu and see the pictures):

http://www.chinobuffet.com/

Bon Appetit!
