: sì anche secondo me le buone notizie sono proprio 2, ma solo il seguito lo può chiarire. "Un paio" = 2 ma può indicare anche un numero limitato non precisabile (Garzanti), coprendo quindi ogni evenienza

se le notizie buone fossero effettivamente due di numero oppure, se fosse possibile essere meno letterali, direi "alcune belle notizie"

sono d'accordo comunque quel "two" m'ha fatto pensare che in effetti le notizie buone potrebbero essere proprio due, altrimenti avrebbe detto "some good news", ma non ci metterei la mano sul fuoco. Comunque con "un paio" si taglia la testa al toro!

: Avrei detto così! Purchè effettivamente NON siano proprio solo "due". Dal contesto più ampio si potrà capire e allora si potrebbe anche dire "due", visto che sarebbero citate in sequenza dopo nel contesto, immagino. :) Come dice anche Dandamesh, :)

sì, ho scelto "un paio" perché, magari erroneamente, "un paio" mi suona meno specifico di "due", anche se, a rigor di logica, "un paio = 2"

: if this were the case (but I think the register is too formal to use words like 'two-bit'), the president would have had some two-bit news, not two bits of news

D'istinto l'ho interpretato così,potrebbe essere una lavata di capo o un licenziamentoma non mi ha dato l'idea di qualcosa dipositivo. io bits lo collegherei a news, con un senso diminutivo ironico (una bella batosta)
