As an interpreter I have worked since 2001 on many topics and in many situations - simultaneous in and without a booth, chuchotage (whispered simultaneous) and consecutive, at university, public administration, commercial and ngo/social movement gatherings. My specialities include sociology, politics, human rights, development cooperation as well as intercultural dialogues, Expo (interpreting for 2 years at preparatory seminars and translating web content in 2015 on a daily basis) but I have also interpreted at fashion shows and in commercial negotiations.
In translating, I have a broad range of interests, including acquiring knowledge in general, so I always find new translating and interpreting projects stimulating. Thus I have translated an architectural tender for Kathmandu, many works on Leonardo da Vinci, as well as on my favourite "social" issues: human rights worldwide and in Italy, adoption and child protection policies, violence against women, documents for presentation at the European parliament and to European Commissions, human resources manuals, international cooperation websites and project reports, particularly agronomic projects, and a great variety of other documents of a more commercial nature, on topics such as travel fairs, gold and jewellery exhibitions, cosmetics websites, etc. I have also translated three non-fiction books and in 2015 a challenging play containing many original poems.
I am a perfectionist by nature, and always research contextual information as I progress through the translation - many of my customers thank me for pointing out errors or factual inaccuracies in their original texts!
What my customers appreciate most is the fact they can always count on me , knowing I will work at top level under pressure, and that I will translate their intentions, not merely their words, especially important in university professors' essays, presentations and books.
I am not afraid of asking questions and if nuances are unclear to me, or if I see ambiguity, I always ask the author for clarification rather than gloss it over with an ambivalent English version of the text.
My degree in International Studies included courses in social sciences, world politics and economics, international cooperation and development, the environment, as well as the study of Spanish culture and language. I also support environmental, human rights and peace associations, providing them with interpreting and translation services whenever I can, at both local and international level.
I have lived in Italy for several decades but spent most of 2016 and 2017 in London, continuing freelance translating from there.
Finally, I have 20 years' experience in the hospitality industry, as my husband and I run a small farmhouse dinner, bed and breakfast activity in our home in the northwest Italian Lake District - so I am familiar with customer and operators' requirements, as well as market gardening terminology, in several languages, and I have contributed to t he English language pages of the Piedmontese B&B association.
I am happy to examine all proposals, excluding technical manuals and such.
