O autor não está no palco nem na sala. "Down with the author" foi a primeira hipótese que me ocorreu, mas também não tive grande sorte com o Google para o confirmar. So I would like the hear the opinion of our native English speakers colleagues. What would be better "Out with the author" or "down with the author"? The meaning is, to make it perfectly clear: "Boo! The author sucks!"
Se o autor da peça está no palco, talvez fosse melhor Off with the author, mas out também funciona, porque se poderia tirar o autor da sala. Outra possibilidade mais forte: down with the author.
The context is the theatre. The audience doesn't like the play. I was looking for a conventional way of expressing this kind of disapproval in English -- if it exists. So Martin Riordan's suggestion works pretty well, as far as the meaning goes. I just can't find any hits in Google for "out with the author!" in this particular sense or context.
