I need to provide a quote for interpreting assignment. will be for 10 days offsite. For the week days, I have a full day rate. Accommodation/transport to their account. My query is, how much I can ask for the no work-weekend ( 2 days) ( full day rate may not be appropriate) If this gets extended, then one more weekend is possible. | | | jyuan_us United States Local time: 13:46 Member (2005) English to Chinese + ... When you don't work, you don't get paid. I think that is the way it should be. | | | Hedwig Spitzer (X) Peru French to Spanish + ...
It is normal to charge half day for non-working days, plus regular DSA. Cheers! | | | Srini Venkataraman United States Local time: 12:46 Member (2012) Tamil to English + ... TOPIC STARTER Charges for the weekend: interpreting work" | Dec 28, 2018 |
Half a day sounds proper. No fee on the weekend is not acceptable, since I am not at home. [Some agency, I heard, was paying only for the contracted hours (for example, say 4 hrs) even if the actual work exceeds 4 hrs.- may be a whole day deposition]

It depends who is the entity that hires you. Some pay 1/2 day, some just the per diem and others the full day. I am based in PA and had an assignment in NM. They paid me the full day on weekends, although I did not work. | | | Vanda Nissen Australia Local time: 03:46 Member (2008) English to Russian + ... Usually, 50% | Dec 29, 2018 |

I am in IL and work is in MA I have indicated daily rate for the whole period. Let me wait and see. | | | Apart from the usual accommodation and so on, the rest is negotiable | Dec 29, 2018 |
As you are away from home, you certainly have to make sure your accommodation and restaurant expenses are covered. That would be non-negotiable. The rest is negotiable. A half-day rate would not be unfair. If you charge a full-day rate, and they accept, which I have obtained with some clients in this type of situation, then I say that I am then, of course, available should they need me, but that they have to let me know the day before. The basis for some charge would be that the return fare home (Friday) and back (Sunday for Monday) would probably cost more. This is a type of logic that tends to be understood and can be justified.

[Edited at 2018-12-29 16:55 GMT] Since sort of escort interpretation, in case if the Indian visitors wish to stay long, so will I: no end date in sight. Initial estimate is 10 days. Of course, if they need my services over the weekend, prior info is needed. | | | 10 days with no fixed end | Dec 29, 2018 |
You are right to have quoted for the full 10 days. No fixed end date means it is difficult for you to organize other commitments, not to mention the fact that arranging travel home could be difficult too. This availability should be accounted for and covering the weekend at full rate seems a good way to recognize that. | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Charges for the weekend: interpreting work Trados Business Manager Lite | Create customer quotes and invoices from within Trados Studio
