Portuguese term or phrase: resiste em ti ainda o mal de sofrer

My difficulty with this stanza is on how to interpret the verb ("resistir"), which has several meanings in Portuguese. See http://www.aulete.com.br/resistir

As far as "mal de sofrer", what would be a good translation to EN? Literally, it would be "disease of suffering", you know, that disease that emotional hypochondriacs have, but I'm looking for something more poetic.

Note: Because both terms go together, I thought it makes more sense to post them as a single question. Thank you for your help.

I have not fully thought through the flow of the whole, but the pain of your suffering is my first reaction to o mal de sofrer and withstands seems multifaceted enough for resistir here.
