The living bread actually refers to Christ in the Eucharist when he broke a bread into pieces, telling the apostles that it was his body they were going to eat while he was giving each of them a piece. But what about "altar"? Is it referring to an essential meaning in the following context, or I can just skip it?

"altar" here refers to the table in the front of a church. The very basic meaning, of course, is a place where an animal/human sacrifice is performed. Christians believe that Jesus sacrificed himself for man.
However, I think it would be more appropriate to translate "altar" here as "table" since it also refers to the table where Jesus had his "last supper" with his disciples.

And as humanity depends on his daily bread, he needs Christ and God then.
Living here means that, in my idea of course, we can never be independent from Christ and God. It's an ever-lasting need within us, though presented through sth physical like bread.
It was unlike any bread of human invention. These delicious flakes of wafers appeared on the ground every morning. They lasted only a day and then rotted, because God wanted to teach the people to rely on him daily.
God wants us to do everything we can while relying on him for everything we cannot do, every day, each and every moment. In all that we need – whether it's money for living expenses or patient love for someone who's causing us problems – God stretches us beyond our limitations and provides us with his limitless resources.
When we act this way, we've forgotten that Jesus, who is the living bread, is our daily bread. We've received the Eucharist, the Bread of Life, selfishly, which is hardly what Jesus intended when he instituted the Mass.
