I would like to give props to Paul for coming up with the idea of "shall be without prejudice to" in an effort to translate "bleibt vorbehalten".

Versorgungsausgleich bedeutet: die von den sich Scheidenlassenden während der Ehe erworbenen Pensionsansprüche (these are also called Rentenanwartschaften in German http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anwartschaft) und anderen Aussichten auf Versorgung wegen Alters-, Berufs- oder Erwerbsunfähigkeit werden bei der Scheidung 50/50 aufgeteilt., d.h. Unterschiede zwischen den "Konten" der ehemaligen Ehegatten im Bezug auf die Ansprüche werden ausgeglichen (hier: adjusted). Confirmed by Creifelds, and by Dietl/Lorenz in regard to the translation provided.

Schuldrecht = Recht der Schuldverhältnisse zwischen Parteien (law of obligations in English)
