om de casa/barbat de casa

English translation: dedicated family man

Romanian term or phrase: om de casa/barbat de casa
from an article about changing attitudes to marriage, cohabitation & c.: an interviewee says that she appreciates her partner because he is an "om de casa", especially she likes his cooking.

I can't think of a good English equivalent - "househusband" is rather pejorative, where by my understanding the original term is not. "homebody" is also rather limiting.

om de casă/bărbat de casă
a cooperative husband

Explanation:
Just an idea, but I think it fits your context.
I found this on a blog about motherhood etc.:
This is the question I found myself wondering after a particularly difficult morning with a grumpy toddler and non-cooperative husband.

Indeed, "househusband" is not the same thing, "om de casă" describes a man who helps around the house, does housecores, cooking, cleaning etc.

disagree  Adrian Schwab: I have never heard of this expression! (English native speaker) the term "co-operative" is more associated with banks i.e. "the Co-op Bank". Are you suggesting he is "banking husband"?

-> OK, you have a point, but please see the link I quoted, where another native speaker of English writes about her "non-cooperative husband": after a particularly difficult morning with a grumpy toddler and non-cooperative husband etc.

agree  Renata Ana Ursu: that's it, the term "family man" implies the idea of devotion to one's family as does the Romanian "om de casă", whether the man can cook or not

good man

Explanation:
I would go for this term because, in Romanian, a "om de casa" stands for the man that brings his wages at home, helps his partner, takes care of the house etc. He doesn't necessarily have to be a "househusband" because this would imply him not having a job - "housewife". Therefore, I would presume that this particular term would cover all the necessary features the Romanian term has for us
