Italian term or phrase: Jim Morrison dei senzatetto
Una frase che un personaggio dice al protagonista, il quale si trovava in un locale bevendo per conto suo e finalmente si avvicina a questo gruppo di amici. Il protagonista é un professionista che in seguito ad una crisi esistenziale sta cercando di lanciare un disco, per questo gli amici in maniera scherzosa gli dicono il Jim Morrison dei senzatetto. Non so proprio come renderla. Grazie!!

the Jim Morrison of the homeless

Explanation:
Why not? As in the Italian you leave it up to the reader to work out what the **** it is supposed to mean. It is not a translator's job to explain in the target language what was enigmatic or inexplicable in the source language !

-> yes...maryo, I feel your pain..how often do we come across indecipherable texts that we are tempted to try and decipher in the translation !

agree  luskie: from the explanation added in the notes I understand that "il ... dei senzatetto" is used to 'exaggerate' the idiom "il ... dei poveri"

the Jim Morrison of the losers/have-nots

Explanation:
ciao
a meno che non ci siano specifici riferimenti al fatto che i protagonisti abbiano perso casa e/o facciano fatica a trovare una casa, credo fortemente che il testo vada interpretato in maniera più generale (e quindi non nel senso specifico di 'vagabondi/barboni/privi di fissa dimora) come 'perdenti/sfigati/nullatenenti' e, per questo, lo tradurrei così :)
