neutral  Joseph Tein: see my note to Anuja - 'sanitario' is not always 'sanitary'. In English 'sanitary' often has to do with cleanliness or waste disposal - it is not commonly used in relation to health or health care.

Spanish Agency of Medicines and Healthcare Products

This is an official agency of the Spanish government, under the Ministry of Health and Consumer Affairs. See http://www.agemed.es/.

Its former name was "Agencia Española del Medicamento", a name given in 1997. See http://www.agemed.es/en/actividad/legislacion/espana/docs/le...

A search for English translations of the earlier name on their website shows that they used to call themselves the Spanish Medicines Agency See page 1 of http://www.agemed.es/en/actividad/legislacion/espana/docs/RC...

At http://www.agemed.es/en/actividad/documentos/infoInteres/doc... , I found that the AEMPS puts "Spanish Medicines and Healthcare Products Agency (Agencia Española de Medicamentos y Productos Sanitarios, AEMPS)". I guess this is one possible solution. However, neither the document nor the website is terribly well-translated at times and this name gets 0 hits in google, so I would take it with a grain of salt.

I have one agency who prefers I translate this as "Spanish Agency for Medicinal and Health Products" for the EU. My personal preference would be "Spanish Agency for Medicinal and Healthcare Products" (EU only) or "Spanish Agency of Medications and Healthcare Products" or "Spanish Agency of Medicines and Healthcare Products". I think any reasonable variation of the name is fine; however, it is an official body of the Spanish government and should be capitalized, as Dr. Bazire indicated.

Five years on, I would like to suggest this as the correct translation.
Unfortunately the Agencia Española de Medicamentos y Productos Sanitorios does not officially translate its title.
But I recommend "Spanish Agency for Medicines and Medical Devices" because it is used here:

agree  Charles Davis: Hi Emma. They have embraced this, you're right. I've come round on "medical devices" because I do think that's what "productos sanitarios" means. But they use "...OF Medicines...", which makes me wince, and I'm with you on quietly changing it to FOR :)
