Hello, Translators and Friends,

Lately I received emails from Chinese translators in China and also read message posted in the Chinese Forum that the translators in China and Taiwan are either experiencing diffulties to sign up PayPal Personal Account, or confused about the requirements.

I visited PayPal's website today, and found that PayPal Personal Account can be set up by translators outside America. I set up my account at PayPal several months ago. Now I found that PayPal offers services to many countries in the world. Translators outside America can easily sign up their free personal accounts at PayPal as long as their countries are listed in PayPal.

These are what I found, and hope it can be helpful to those who are trying to setup their PayPal accounts.

There are two parts in this account setup procedure. The first part is to setup an account for yourself at PayPal. Please following these steps:

1. Go to the "welcome" page of the PayPal's website: https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_home

2. In the Welcome page, at the center area (above the sentence "Sign up for your FREE PayPal Account"), there is a sentence "Over 25 million members worldwide!" Click on "worldwide."

3. Then you come to the page named "Non-US Account." Click on "Open a Non-US Account" at the lower bottom of the screen.

4. Now you are in the page named "Non-US Personal Account Sigh Up". In the drop down menu of "Country", make a selection. Then click on "Continue."

5.Now you entered next page with all the detailed fields to fill up. Fill all the fields with accurate information. Be sure to designate an email address which will be used for your PayPal payment translation. At the end, click on "Sign up" button.

By now, you have completed the procedures to sign up your personal account with PayPal. You should received two emails from PayPal to confirm such an account. This means that you can now give your designated email address to your client, and your client can make payment to you with this email address (if your client also has a PayPal account) .

When a payment is made to you, PayPal will email you and inform you that a payment is waiting for you to claim. If you choose to "Withdraw", PayPal will transfer the payment to your bank account. This brings up the second part of the setting up process, that is to set up your bank account with PayPal and get "Verified".

The procedure is very simple. Just follow the instruction in the PayPal website. Submit your bank account number. In a 2-3 days, PayPal will make two deposits into your bank account. You need to find out the exact amount of these two deposits from your bank, then come back to this same page and fill in these two figures. After your bank account is verified by PayPal, it will transfer the payment it received to your bank account.

For more information about withdrawing money from PayPal account, please visit: http://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_help-ext&eloc=0&loc=216&source_page=_home&flow=

Well, now you have it. Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Good luck!

Kevin

Can't withdraw money... Jun 20, 2003

Paypal is rather useful for small payments, but they don't let you withdraw money to banks outside the U.S. due to the complicated procedures and fee issues between banks. So I always use my account for online shopping...

Li-chuan,

Isn't that annoying? Georgia from Taiwan told me that too. I am sorry for you ladies that you have to deal with such problem. I sent an email about this issue to PayPal a few days ago, and hope they can respond. If they do, I will post their response here.

I wish there is solution in payment method for the translators outside America. So far I paid my translators by bank wire transfer (Bank charges USD $35.00 for service fee), by Company check and personal check. The French translator got charged another 35 Euro dollar by his bank when withdrew the money I wired. What a pain in the neck!

Online shopping? That's creative! But the postage can be hefty.

Perhaps we should talk more about it. Please share with us here if anyone who has a better solution.

Thanks!

Kevin

Hi, My Friends,

Shopping is a fabulous idea! Look, for all those on-line books/gifts/Casinos...Hum...Li-chuan, you should consider the possibility to run a Trading business or to become a professional gambler.

Yes, Kevin, the payment method for translators outside of American could be a practical obstacle for bidding a job here. If it's for a long-term cooperation, we can always stand for some extra fee. For instance,my overseas clients pay me every two or three months for saving this kind of service fee. But if it's just for a short term assignment or a temporary job, I think to have a Paypal account is kind of critical. Kevin, we'll wait for your further information if any.
Well, time to go now.
SeeYa,
Georgia
