My adminstration is not effective for my needs. Ithink I need more self-discipline or more time to plan and maintian an effective structure. e.g. I can remember translating a similar contract / tender clause for another client a while ago - but as I file my translations and TMs by client and project no/date, I have too look through a lot of files to find it and so my system just isn't efficient. need to learn how to market myself... | Mar 17, 2010 |
I've been working mostly with agencies but I feel the time has come to find direct clients and I have no idea how to do that, but it will be an adventure nevertheless!

I sometimes berate myself for not being as careful as I should be in proofing my own work...it's really just impatience, nothing else.

I'm embarassed this option wasn't suggested - is this only my problem? I spend a lot of time translating in fields I feel I don't really know enough about. After doing it for a while and proofing other translators' translations, I sometimes end up quite confident - but then sooner or later somebody will show up who really is an expert in that field and I get told that what I'd been writing all that time was wrong after all... Rolf Kern Switzerland Local time: 08:23 English to German + ... In memoriam
My problem is my memory. I am 80 and have got a bad short-time memory. I forget how I translated a term a few minutes ago and have to revert back, when it commes up again. This takes time.

Definitely poor typing skills are my greatest weakness. If I could type as well as I can translate, I could do so much better. Yet I do OK just as I am.

We put. I'm not good at "the customer is always right." I blew one job last week because they wanted me to take a screening test that would have taken me about 2 hours to complete - to see if they liked me "style." There should have been an option: All of above. Though, I do wish that I knew touch typing which may have made me more productive (possibly a myth).
