English term

forward planning desk

English to Spanish Marketing Advertising / Public Relations
I am translating a text for a charity into Spanish and I've come up with this term in the paragraph dedicated to media relations:

Identify the correct editorial contacts for the media in your area. For local/regional papers and magazines this is likely to be someone on the news desk. There is no harm in sending it to several named, appropriate individuals in case someone is away. Alternatively, send it to the news desk so that it is picked up by whoever is working that day. For local/regional TV and radio stations, it will most probably be the **forward planning desk** for news programmes, and for other programmes it will be a researcher or producer working on that specific programme.

I know that "news desk" is the "redacción" of a newspaper, but I can't find the correct term for a news program (I know what it refers to, I just don't know how to say it).

Thanks in advance.

Forward planning desk (UK)

There seems to be a difference depending on the different broadcast media in the UK. In a newspaper, the usual term for the section in charge of news planning is “news desk” (literally “sección de noticias”, i.e. = “redacción” for Spain), but in radio and TV media, for some obscure reason that escapes my understanding, the corresponding term is “forward planning desk”. See references underneath. HTH.

Getting the right contacts. You will need to make sure your release gets to the right people. This will be different for each type of media:
Newspapers: you will send your release to the general ‘news desk’ or a specific reporter.
Radio and TV: depending on the size of the station/programme, some outlets have ‘forward planning desks’ who decide what stories will be run over the next few days. Otherwise they will have a standard ‘news desk’.

If you would like to contact your local media use the following sample press release to help. Firstly, here are a few tips.
Email your press release to the news desk of your regional/local newspaper and the forward planning desk at your regional radio and TV stations.
