disagree  Germaine: Pas dans ce contexte. Certainement pas. 1.

disagree  Daryo: "au détriment de" has a strong negative connotation - implying one party got a rough deal - nothing of the sort to be found in this ST // "in relation to" [in this ST and in general] has nothing to do with any kind of "comparaison".

Sont réglées par

Explanation:

-> Let me clarify: Régler means in French paying money for a transaction. Here the transaction is about acquiring shares and the money paid is a receivable, that's to say, a claim that will be converted into cash over a certain period of time.

IOW

if this company has bought back 10,000 worth of own shares from a shareholder who owed 6,000 to the company, of the total consideration of 10,000 one part was paid by offsetting the 6,000 owed by the ex-shareholder.

Only this can make sense.

"receivable balances from shareholders" is about money owed by shareholders to the company (dettes des actionnaires envers la société = des effects à recevoir PAR LA SOCIÉTÉ).

So if there is any "offsetting" / "settling against" / "compensation" going to happen it MUST be against an obligation the other way round - against some money owed by the company to shareholders.

Given that fact, the rather vague "in relation to treasury shares" can only mean that this company is buying back own shares from shareholders, as only that would create "une dette de la société envers les actionnaires" - that could be used to partially offset the opposite debt.

BTW I don't use CL5 lightly.

AN:
'Part of the total amount considered by comparison with the Treasury shares was resolved against the remaining shareholder receivable or admissible balances.'

"9.2.2.1 Physically settled forward repurchase contracts
A forward repurchase contract that, by its terms, must be physically settled by delivering cash in exchange for a fixed number of the reporting entity’s shares should be recorded as a liability under the guidance in ASC 480. ASC 480-10-30-3 through ASC 480-10-30-5 provide guidance regarding the initial measurement and recognition for such a physically settled forward repurchase contract. It is essentially accounted for as a financed purchase of treasury stock.
ASC 480-10-30-3
Forward contracts that require physical settlement by repurchase of a fixed number of the issuer’s equity shares in exchange for cash shall be measured initially at the fair value of the shares at inception, adjusted for any consideration or unstated rights or privileges."

From the reference I consider that a repurchase of entity shares or financed purchase of treasury shock can become a liability for shareholders. Perhaps that explains the use of 'against' as opposed to 'with' in the source text ' Part of a total consideration in relation to treasury shares was settled against receivable balances from shareholders.'

disagree  Daryo: "la somme considérée" is wrong, and not only that // agree with Germaine // WHERE do you see in this ST any "problem needing a solution"??? It's about two parties offsetting mutual obligations (= un règlement par compensation) nothing more.

disagree  AllegroTrans: "résolu" does not mean "settled" in the context of monetary settlement; I also agree with Germaine; you don't ever seemed to have grasped CONTEXT and its importance

What Is Treasury Stock?

Treasury stock, also known as treasury shares or reacquired stock, refers to previously outstanding stock that has been bought back from stockholders by the issuing company. The result is that the total number of outstanding shares on the open market decreases. Treasury stock remains issued but is not included in the distribution of dividends or the calculation of earnings per share (EPS).

Glossary
Treasury share

A company's own issued share which the company has purchased pursuant to a share buyback but which is not cancelled upon delivery back to the company. A share can only be transferred into treasury where it has been purchased by a company from a shareholder out of distributable profits (section 724(1), Companies Act 2006).
The statutory provisions relating to treasury shares are set out in Chapter 6 of Part 18 of the Companies Act 2006.

In this text "actions rachetées" is the better option, as these shares have just been bought back, and the payment to the ex-shareholders was made in part by offsetting what they owe to the company (="receivable balances from shareholders").

neutral  Germaine: Attention!

-> No one is conflating the two! (1) ONLY "actions autodétenues / rachetées" corresponds to "Treasury stock / treasury shares / reacquired stock" + agrees with "buyback of own shares" as the only way that this whole sentence can make real-life sense.
