More than 1.5 million words of legal text in the past 6 years

I have a broad range of professional experience, having worked for Philips, the BBC, Kalamazoo, the European Commission, the Courts Service of England and Wales and an English law firm.

I have lived and worked in England, Ireland and Luxembourg and have travelled extensively in Europe.

In the European Commission I had to work chiefly through French.
I was first challenged to consider translation as an income-producing activity some 36 years ago when I was working in Court administration, when I was asked to interpreti the evidence given by witnesses from France at a County Court hearing (the interpreter retained by the respondent's lawyer having failed to show).

I am now semi-retired (but active!) and combine freelance translating with work as an advocate in the County Courts in England. My legal specialisations include Commercial Litigation, Insolvency and Conveyancing.

I regard my strengths to be total immersion in the use of administrative and legal English, whether that be in the arcane language of old property deeds, officialese, "Eurobabble" or "plain English".

Aware that official bodies often insist on certified translations, I offer the following:

* Translator's signed certificate

* Translator's affidavit certifying translation, sworn before an English solicitor

* Translation and translator's certificate verified by an English notary (the notary does
not vouch for the accuracy of the translation, only the translator's identity)

* Translation and translator's certificate sealed under the "apostille" of the UK Foreign
and Commonwealth Office

I pride myself on my ability to translate into natural-sounding English and on my skills in finding descriptive, syntactical and commonsense solutions for difficult phrases in the source languages from which I translate.

Personally, I almost invariably translate only into my native language, UK English. I have a trusted team of colleagues for translation from English to French, German, Italian, Spanish and several other European languages.
