They agreed with the general analysis or consensus view... Explanation: They had a "conversation" where they discussed, presumably, the various analyses ( plural) already made. These analyses would have been carried out prior to, during, and post election. He says the US view was certainly clear about the reasons for Trump's election (and Bannon as chief strategist would certainly have already come to that view,), but it was in fact a generally-accepted or consensus view, shared by most analysts. And they agreed with that shared analysis during their conversation -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 3 hrs (2022-08-31 08:33:22 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- I agree with Mark (just saw his Dbox entry) that Chris and Steve shared a point of view that they had each formed separately before they met. There was no process of joint analysis during this "conversation". But there would already have been a consensus view in the media, on both sides of the Atlantic.. After all, Trump's election was big news around the world. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 5 hrs (2022-08-31 10:40:31 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Note also the impersonal "There was a shared..." not "we came to share ..." |
