English term or phrase: there was a shared analysis of challenging the status quo
Hello everyone,

From the BBC (script for the) documentary The Decade The Rich Won.

Chris Wilkins: Following the press conference that the Prime Minister* and President had we sat down for a private lunch and as I went in I encountered Steve Bannon, then the President’s strategist and we, we had a conversation. What was clear was a sense that there was a shared analysis of challenging the status quo and certainly in the United States they took the view that Donald Trump had been swept to power on a sense that politicians hadn’t been listening to people for too long and had been doing their own thing.

Prime Minister=Theresa May

Does shared analysis mean that Chris and Steve analyzed the situation and came to the conclusion that they both had the same views - the UK and the USA wanted to challenge the status quo?

Thank you.

Selected answer:They agreed with the general analysis or consensus view...
Explanation:
They had a "conversation" where they discussed, presumably, the various analyses ( plural) already made. These analyses would have been carried out prior to, during, and post election.

He says the US view was certainly clear about the reasons for Trump's election (and Bannon as chief strategist would certainly have already come to that view,), but it was in fact a generally-accepted or consensus view, shared by most analysts. And they agreed with that shared analysis during their conversation

I agree with Mark (just saw his Dbox entry) that Chris and Steve shared a point of view that they had each formed separately before they met. There was no process of joint analysis during this "conversation".
But there would already have been a consensus view in the media, on both sides of the Atlantic.. After all, Trump's election was big news around the world.

Note also the impersonal "There was a shared..." not "we came to share ..."
