The Great Patriotic War

Explanation:
The Great Patriotic War (Russian: Вели́кая Оте́чественная война́, romanized: Velikaya Otechestvennaya voyna; Ukrainian: Велика Вітчизняна війна, romanized: Velyka Vitchyzniana viyna; Belarusian: Вялікая Айчынная вайна, Vialikaja Ajčynnaja vajna)[a] is a term used in Russia and some other former republics of the Soviet Union[1] to describe the conflict fought during the period from 22 June 1941 to 9 May 1945 along the many fronts of the Eastern Front of World War II, primarily between the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany. For some legal purposes, this period may be extended to 11 May 1945 to include the end of the Prague Offensive.[2]

The end of the Great Patriotic War is commemorated on the 9th of May.

-> Спасибо за мнение! Но вопрос не о Great Patriotic War, только в России и пос-советском пространстве так называют.

agree  Elizabeth Morris: This is what Americans will understand: "World War II" to be simple or "Eastern Front (of World War II)" if you need to be specific.

the Nazi-Soviet War (1941-45)

Explanation:
Or German-Soviet. In addition to the Eastern Front, this mentions the major patries and describes this from any other standpoint other than Soviet or Russia's. You don't have to name it what some say it was.
