Thank you Thank you, Chris! All this will help understanding the whole topic.
chris collister Jun 27, 2021:
I confess to being intrigued by this device, which seems to contain an ionising radioactive source (the clue is in the name). HOWEVER, the purpose of a lightning protector is generally to avoid getting struck, but rather to extract charge from the atmosphere and dump it safely into the ground. Many hundreds of amps can flow down conductors without their being hit.
You will see on p. 31 that the "dispositifs de capture" aka "pointes captrices" are sharply pointed spikes. The intense electric field around these spikes ionises the air around them, turning the air into a conductive gas which allows the atmospheric charge to drain away to ground, hopefully before the spike actually gets struck. So strictly speaking it's not the lightning itself that's being "captured" but electric charge. In EN I think we would just use the rather general term "lightning rod" though strictly speaking it's an "anti-lightning rod".

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thank you. (Phil gave the right answer and understood the question which was obviously only about lightning - foudre.)"

lightning capture system

There are two possibilities. Firstly it's a lightning capture device, in which lightning conductors are made and installed to protect buildings from the impacts of direct lightning. ... The installations comprise, linked together with a light or image capturing device, with a circuit which deflects lightning to the ground earth, where there are grounded sockets, outlets or connections.

Secondly, it's part of camera where it's used as an image and motion capturing device.
"There's a challenge of transporting the image capture device outside to be able to study. The occurrence is called correction gamma, which occurs in the camera's image capture device."

Example sentence:

"Les paratonneres sont destinés à protéger des bâtiments contre les impacts de foudre direct. .. Les installations comportent, reliés entre eux, les dispositifs de capture, les circuits de descente à la terre, les prises en terre."

"Il y a un défi de transporter le dispositif de capture du mouvement à l'extérieur pour pouvoir étudier. Cette occurrence s'appelle correction gamma; elle est réalisée dans le dispositif de capture d'images en l'occurrence de la caméra."

neutral AllegroTrans : Same answer as Phil's. Why do you not have the simple courtesy to post an agree as others have done?

neutral philgoddard : I know you never read other people's answers or comments but, just for the record, it's nothing to do with cameras.
