Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

PRO (2): philgoddard, Toni Castano

Non-PRO (3): Juan Jacob, Michele Fauble, Rachel Fell

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Discussion

philgoddard Jul 29, 2020:
So it doesn't mean "today's special".
Sonia Maria (asker) Jul 29, 2020:

philgoddard Jul 28, 2020:
Exactly! I don't think we should jump to conclusions without the full context.
Reuben Wright Jul 28, 2020:
As Phil pointed out:

If the phrase refers to a featured dish or item that is not available on the regular menu, for example, "crema de champiñones de temporada" or "el menú del día", then "Today's specials" would work.

If the phrase appears on regular menus listing dishes that are always available, "May we suggest" might work better. Also, if the phrase appears at the beginning of different menus (or sections of menus).

The Asker would need to specify if this phrase appears on the regular menu(s), or if it indeed applies to dishes that are not regularly available and are therefore features of the day.
philgoddard Jul 28, 2020:
Do you mean "platos" rather than "cartas"? Are they the dishes of the day, as Liz suggests, or does this phrase apply to all the dishes on the menu?

[Today,] may we recommend/Chef's recommendations

"May we" suena educado sin forzar in EN.

Example sentence:

Today\'s food deals offer lots of freaky freebies and spooky specials. Here\'s where to find them. https://usatoday.com/story/money/nation-now/2018/10/30/halloween-food-deals-2018-freebies-specials/1694235002/ #HappyHalloween

Peer comment(s):

disagree Yvonne Gallagher : not idiomatic in this context and CL5 is OTT//Sorry, but this is an upmarket restaurant not a supermarket or pizza express! (and your link doesn't work)

Sorry but there are many examples of this usage in the same meaning as "hoy te sugerimos" in the USA
disagree Reuben Wright : Unfortunately, this is really not in the right register. "Deals" is very Walmart and sounds out-of-place for any restaurant aspiring to anything better than a roadside diner. Your suggested translation does not take the Asker's context into consideration.

Given the extra information, provided by Sonia Maria in the Discussion, I have gone off "Today's specials" as an ideal answer. If these are embodied in the usual list of dishes on the menu, they are not ‘special’. What might be the case is that the restaurant wishes to encourage diners to eat up excess stock of an item before it goes off, or maybe has some, e.g. fish that they were able to buy at an extremely advantageous one off price…… There are lots of possible reasons for recommending a dish. All of which makes me think that “TODAYS’S SUGGESTIONS” is not such a shot in the dark!!!

Sonia Maria has provided vital extra context.

Firstly this is a chain or group of restaurants, not a single outlet.

Here is the context:
