Italian term or phrase: Chi aveva detto che avessi l’esclusiva?
The writer has been walking around the streets observing people's faces in order to find inspiration for a character to write about. He notices somebody whose head is bowed down and who seems a bit alienated from the rest of what is going on.

Forse perché era proprio come me. L’idea mi stuzzicava. Più ci pensavo e meno la consideravo assurda. Perché no. Chi aveva detto che avessi l’esclusiva? Chissà quante altre idee avevano preso il posto dei loro creatori e giravano tramortite per la città.

I can see what this is saying in a sense, but don't really know the best to word it to blend it in with the overall meaning

Who ever said that you (I) had the exclusive?

Explanation:
That's how I understand it. They are saying to themselves that they are not the only ones like that. Talking to oneself in the second person, depending on how you translate it you could leave it like that or change it to first person.
