How can I translate "eje" in this context please? It is a market research text about consumers travelling by road to cinemas in an area in Spain......
The text reads as follows........

region / area / in the vicinity of Avenida XXXXX
The text is discussing catchment areas for cinema audiences and so I would use a word that describes a two dimensional shape (i.e. area or region, etc.) rather than a word that is linear ("line") - you would need at least 3 lines to define a "catchment area".
I'd even consider using something like "with a greater intensity in the streets running off/around/connected to/ or in the vicinity of Avenida XXXXX"

Asker: Thank you very much cranesfreak, this sort of terminology is not my strong point :-0(( (Not a central point, cross road or a junction then?)
Re:

"Eje" is used in the ST as a line. The "Avenida" is a line. I am talking about a line not about an straight line.

main artery / arterial road (eje vial)
Without further context, I would tend to use this (arterial road) in English.
