Spanish term

arbitrios

Spanish to English Law/Patents Law: Contract(s) Chattel Mortgage
Deed of Chattel Mortgage on an Aircraft

This term appears in the glossary but there is more than one translation. I'm wondering whether "local/municipal taxes" or "excise taxes" would be more appropriate in this context.

I'm translating "impuestos" as "taxes" and "tasas" as "rates".

Many thanks in advance for your help.

"6.1.3 Estar al corriente en el pago de toda clase de obligaciones, impuestos, tasas, contribuciones, arbitrios, importe de las pólizas de seguros, honorarios o cualquier otro gasto o carga que grave la Aeronave así como los impuestos y tributos a que se refiere la Estipulación 12 siguiente (los "Pagos"), entregando al Acreedor Hipotecario, a solicitud de éste, los justificantes pertinentes."

levies

An option.
A Google search for "local levies" gets a lot more than "municipal levies", and although there may be specific differences between a levy/tax/fee... etc, in many cases they are synonymous. The problem as I see it is that the source text aims to cover all angles, so keeps churning out lists of things which to all intents and purposes are synonyms.
Example sentence:

Indirect state and local levies include general and selective sales taxes, gross receipts taxes, taxes on business and residential property, severance taxes ...

Note from asker:
Thanks Neil. My dictionary says "taxes" or "fees" so perhaps "levies" would work here as an alternative to "taxes" and "duties".

forget "excise" and I'll stick with "duties"

there are so many meanings here that it's impossible to be accurate
Note from asker:
Thanks David. The only problem is that when they say "impuestos y tributos" later in the same sentence, I've translated "tributos" as "duties". It's difficult to find enough synonyms!

agree neilmac : Yeah, why not, although I usually try to keep "duties" for customs texts.
