trips to China / The Great Empire of China

Império do Meio is a direct reference to the Great Empire of China. Nowadays it's used as a synonim of China. If you're dealing with historical documents the right translation is The Great Empire of China. If not, trips to China will suffice.

middle Kingdom is, in my opinion, quite better than middle Empire, one might get confused with the middle Empire of the roman Antonines..............
