: Here, 'to be determined' makes more sense: they can't work out the shipping costs until the order has been weighed, for example.

less worrying for the customer I guess....

: But that's over-interpretation, Patrick: the s/t is not 'Depends on shipping method'; we don't know WHY it is 'TBD', it could be something as simple as weighing the parcel. I'm all for cultural localization, but I think this goes too far.

I see your point Tony, the thing is I can't remember seeing "a determiner" on a Bon de Commande... besides modalité as you can see in my examples deals with everything (weight, distance, etc.)...

TBD in EN
All orders placed online will display shipping and handling as TBD (to be determined) since freight is determined by the weight and distance and is calculated at the time of shipping.

Discussion
However, you said it yourself: it's all about 'interpretation', and I think your suggestion amounts to OVER-interpretation: you are making assumptions about what the source text means, and you are also making assumptions about the emotional response of the reader of the target text. Doing one of those may be acceptable, but doing both may be pretty risky — and the further we depart from the source text, the greater the risk of introducing a translation error.
How do we translate mpg (miles per gallon)... milles terrestre par gallon impérial? Nope because not only the french measure in km and liter but the calculation is done the other way around in liter per 100km... So we COULD translate in mi/gal GB but we don't because the customer won't get it.
I am not saying I'm right, merely suggesting an interpretation... and I can be wrong indeed!
About the only thing I've ever seen here in France was something along the lines of 'à calculer' — though most times, on websites, it has already been determined by the details given before you get to this point.
