Persian (Farsi) term or phrase: چندمین
I'm stuck in translating a question from Farsi into English. I'm looking for a translation for "جورج بوش چندمین رئیس جمهور امریکا بود؟" I can think of many alternatives for the translation of that, however I have no idea how to use "چندمین" as a question in English? Could anyone help me with translationg "جورج بوش چندمین رئیس جمهور امریکا بود؟" into English? I could only come up with "How many presidents served before George Bush in US?"

Thank you in advance.

I found some interesting discussions about forming this question! it seems many people have the same problem!!

In the following link, at the end of the discussion, someone suggests the same question form as mine, and he get admitted!

And the following link also suggests the same form but with one word added to it, and it is "chronologically". Therefore, we can say "Which president of the U.S. is Bush Chronologically?"

agree  Edward Plaisance Jr: I think all native English speakers would understand "which" here means "how many-eth"...maybe if all the Iranians in English-speaking countries started using "how many-eth" it would catch on :)...we could certainly use it in English

Unfortunately, you can't really ask this question in English. You need to do a workaround.

Where does Obama stand in the succession of presidents of the US?
What number president is Obama? (He's number 44.)
How many presidents were there before Obama?
Obama is the what-number president of the United States?
**Although the last one is a bit strange, it is probably the easiest way to tell someone exactly what you are asking.
