an escudero is one who carries the escudo, that is a standard bearer and NOT a squire, in my opinion....
the squire was a henchman to the knight....
Sancho Panza is a squire NOT a standard bearer. A standard bearer carries the flag while the squire helps the knight in battle....
the one who carried the flag...not to be mixed with pages who hung around the king and queen....
