Spanish term

Poner perdido

Spanish to English Art/Literary History
In a literary piece in Castillian Spanish, the author says "el rey de Frigia había puesto perdida de griegos la costa meridional de Anatolia" and in the next sentence goes on to say "Su afición a los griegos era extraordinaria".

So in this context does "puesto perdida de grigos" mean "filled up with Greeks" or is it "got rid of the Greeks" with the next sentence being sardonic (the author is prone to making joking remarks).

cover the southern coast of Anatolia with Greeks / make it swarm with Greeks

"me puse perdida de aceite sería mancharme mucho"... de la misma manera aquí que los griegos no parecen ser santo de gran devoción, pues hace que la zona pululara de ellos

infest

Infested the southern coast of Anatolia with Greeks. OK, maybe it's a touch strong, but "poner perdido" really does imply dirtying the place. It's pretty pejorative.
