Even though I have seen many examples in Internet, I don't grab the sense of this expression. This is the context:

Explanation:
Creo que hay que plasmar en la respuesta el hecho de que son programas que son lanzados sin mayor estudio y sin referencias.

A mi lo de "estar de moda" me parece que no entrega esa connotación pues no necesariamente "desacredita" esos programas. Lo de efímero si me parece adecuado. Hay cosas que están de moda pero no necesariamente indica que son malas, simplemente obedecen a un ciclo natural.
