not to be too pedantic, but... -> I can see where you've found a specific equivalent, but I prefer to translate a tissue as a tissue rather than a Kleenex.

On the same scale, your suggestions sounds like "absorbent paper sheet" rather than tissue paper. Its too broad, and too general. The Japanese term is the name of a very specific vehicle, akin to "2005 Ford Focus RS". Your term is like saying "a car" where I argue it should be "sporty 3 door hatchback". The role, and type of equipment is very well defined, and happens to have an English term which is a very close equivalence in scope, and content.

But, thats just my opinion. The whole discussion is lightly pointless without knowing what the greater context is, and who the intended audience is. I'm making the assumption that it is an American English audience. So who knows? As long as it helps Li Gang, I believe we're doing some good. :D

A clarification on terminology and the reasoning Tina, just to clarify on my comment. Military Construction Vehicle isn't a bad term, but it doesn't really provide the specific type of vehicle in my opinion. The Japanese 施設作業車 is an armored vehicle, tasked with engineering operations in combat to near-combat situations. Thus, it is provided with laser detection and smoke dispensers. This role in the US army is filled by the CEVs. A CEV could be described as a Military Construction Vehicle, but the role the 施設作業車 plays is closest to the the accepted name "CEV". As my suggested answer notes, it really depends on who the audience is. Even within the US Army's inventory exists a variety of names that really fit within the same broad description. If we get into different English speaking countries, it depends on who you ask. So Li Gang, you have your choice. Neither is wrong on the broader sense, in my opinion. I believe my answer is a little more precise of a term. That's all.

Combat Engineer Vehicle

This term refers to vehicles that are used for the demolition of enemy fortifications, and the construction of defensive positions. In American English, the type of vehicle is called the Combat Engineer Vehicle, generally tank chassis with bull dozer blades and hydraulics added. In Japan, they try to avoid the term "combat" in their names, and tend to use civilian technology, instead of adapt military vehicles for use.

What you want to be careful with, is the specific terminology. A more general term is "Military Engineering Vehicle". "Combat Engineer Vehicle" is used by the United States Armed forces. Many armies have very particular names for their equipment. For instance, the Grizzly based on the M1 tank is called a "Combat Mobility Vehicle" because it is meant to be a primarily offensive tool, used to clear areas for other tanks to travel through. I could go on, but the CEV is a well understood term in the US military. The British use the Chieftain Armoured Vehicle Royal Engineer, or the ChAVRE. Different terminology. I hope this makes sense.

disagree Katsushi Saito : No. You do not know how CEV is called in Japanese.
