French term

dossier d'accueil

French to English Bus/Financial Human Resources
For my sins, I am translating a Quality Manual (always a barrel of laughs) which has a section headed "Accueil des nouveaux embauchés", with the line, "Tout nouvel embauché se voit remettre à son arrivée un ***dossier d’accueil***, puis il suit les formations concernant son activité incluant la présentation du SMQ".
SMQ is "Système de management de la qualité", of course.
I have no further information on what the "dossier d'accueil" contains, but one can guess it includes the Company rules, an organisation chart or two, details of the Mutuelles and so forth, and perhaps a felt-tip pen with the company logo.
Here my problem is not related to QM: I am having a bout of TBP (Translator's Brain Paralysis), and can't think of a meaningful translation of "dossier d'accueil".
No, there is nothing close enough in the glossary ...

Discussion

philgoddard Nov 19, 2009:
Is it clear from the context whether the dossier is about the company in general, or just about the quality management system?

welcome/induction/info(rmation) pack for new employees

The concept of some kind of "*pack* for new employees" appears to be quite common. Here a few examples:

A "welcome pack" for new employees includes information about our intranet, where they can find employment policies and other related material.

We've started including the style guide in the corporate induction pack for new employees.

The welcome pack for new employees outlines the company's approach to CR.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thank you Colin. I went for "welcome pack" in my context, though induction pack would have suited just as well. Many thanks to all contributors. "

Induction/ Introductory file

Couple of years back, when I had started working as a language assistant i was welcomed & given a similar file.
Peer comment(s):

agree Sheila Wilson : Induction is the jargon word for it, certainly. File or pack.

new hire welcome pack

There are so many ways of saying this - this is another possibility. I actually worked putting these packs together for a French/American company for a number of years - but unfortunately there was no felt tip pen in ours;-)
