Russian term or phrase:

bound by a distorted (sense of) reality
Explanation:
...people are often governed/influenced by a distorted sense of reality.

alternatively you could even simplify it to... governed by a distorted reality

while you might use the term 'pseudo-reality', I think distorted reality sounds more natural and is certainly used in common parlance.

talk in terms of some pseudo-reality OR are merely shadow-boxing

Explanation:
... and also, to no small extent, because people often talk in terms of some pseudo-reality, when they are discussing ways to solve the common problems of mankind

Now, here's my more radical idea, if you think it might fit:

... and also, to no small extent, because people are often merely shadow-boxing, when they discuss ways to solve the common problems of mankind

I don't if "pseudo-reality(ies)" is really a term in either Russian or English, but shadow-boxing means fighting not with a real adversary, but only sparring with an imaginary one - as if fighting with his shadow on the wall. Sometimes it really is done by boxers, for practice. В переносном смысле it means fighting either with an enemy which is not the real one, or in a way which is fake, not a real fight.

skillfully manipulate pseudo-realities

Explanation:
Считаю, что наиболее подходящим английским аналогом в данном случае будет слово “manipulate” (в исходном значении “to handle or use something, especially with some skill, in a process or action”), которое так же как и "опрерировать" можно использовать в переносном значении.

…when discussing ways to solve the common problems of mankind, people often skillfully manipulate pseudo-realities.
