Context:

Das mehrsprachige Portal richtet sich an alle Zielgruppen im In- und Ausland, die sich mit den multimedialen Möglichkeiten des Internets über Deutschland informieren wollen.

What on earth could the author specifically mean by "mit den multimediale Möglichkeiten des Internets"? Essentially what it boils down to is that this portal offers videos and background information, but any literal translation such as "using the full range of multimedia opportunities offered by the Internet" just doesn't cut it, does it? It seems rather waffly to me, but how could I get the intended meaning across without being accused of translating too freely?

Indeed I quite agree, which was why I mentioned above that a literal translation just doesn't work. Your suggestion is just the kind of answer I was looking for, Alex, but sadly came a little too late for me to use.

The term is used in contrast to media which only use traditional forms of printed or hand-produced material. Multimedia includes a combination of text, audio, still images, animation, video, and interactivity content forms.

Sorry... What the author clearly wanted to say is: using internet's capability to present information through various media (e.g. sounds, videos, texts)...i.e. multimedia. I really think you're making it more complicated than it really is....<br>Using "resources available on the internet" is misleading because it hints at resources outside of the portal, whereas what is says is exactly the opposite. <br><br>It simply says: there are many ways to get information about Germany (information flyers, books and so on) but if you want to get information on Germany through multiple media (e.g. sounds, video, text and so on, i.e. multimedia information), our internet portal is what you've been looking for!<br><br>In a few words: "using the full range of multimedia opportunities offered by the Internet" is ok. "using the full range of multimedia resources available on the Internet" is totally misleading.

....the author could have avoided the ambiguous "multimedialen Möglichkeiten" by using "multimedialen Fähigkeiten".
