Portuguese term

presunto

Portuguese to English Other Cooking / Culinary Restaurant Menu
What is the most common expression for "presunto", as in "sandes de presunto"?

Is it dry-cured ham sandwich/Jamon sandwich/other?

I need a short expression that can fit well on a restaurant menu.
Thank you in advance!

There was someone who suggested "smoked-ham". What do you feel about this one? Thank you.

ham

sanduiche de presunto = ham sandwich
Note from asker:
I also have "sandes de fiambre", so I used that expression for that one, so I was looking for another. Thank you!

neutral Floriana Leary : Ham is very vague, it could be smoked ham, curred ham, turkey ham...Presunto is a specific type of ham and has a totally different taste from normal ham...Not in Portugal, and I'm assuming the Asker, being from Portugal is translating a Portuguese menu

Presunto is any type of ham that can be used in a sandwich, as in the context of the asker
agree Luciano Gomide Varela : A não ser que tenha saiba exatamente qual o tipo de presunto, minha sugestão é "keep it simple, ham covers all kinds".

agree Paul Dixon : I would use "ham", short and simple. In Brazil "sanduíches de presunto", never "de fiambre", although things may be different in the land of Camões.

Thanks, Paul
agree Mateus Gomes : I do agree. Ham is a better word when one doesn't have the specific term. Besides, the dish description would end setting up the understanding.

smoked ham / prosciutto

In a posh restaurant, you'd rather use prosciutto.
Peer comment(s):

agree Zoe Perry : I'm assuming this menu is from Portugal, where Presunto would be Prosciutto, not Ham as Presunto is used in Brazil

Presunto (dry-cured ham)

my suggestin

Ham is very vague, Presunto is a specific type of dry-cured ham, I suggest you leave the name Presunto and in () andd dry-cured ham; take a look:
Presunto is the name given to dry-cured ham from Portugal similar to Spanish Jamón.

There are a wide variety of presuntos in Portugal; among the most famous are Presunto from Chaves, produced in the north of Portugal, and Presunto from Alentejo, in the south, made from local Alentejano Pig.
