à parte

Portuguese to English Art/Literary Poetry & Literature Esoterismo e simbolismo
Here is the original text. I probably copied more than I should have but it's just to give you an idea of the big picture. The author uses a very symbolic and metaphoric language, so sometimes it's hard to figure out exactly what she is trying to say.

Here is how I tried to translate it (but I am not very happy with it):

"If one moves on without properly recognizing these forces, they will be doing so but detached from the process."

on the margin of/outside (the process)

on the margin(s) = a person on the margin(s) of a situation or group has very little power, importance or influence.
Longman Dictionary

Despite the minor pronoun reference problem in the text, this is what I understand: caminhar sem conhecê-las é NÃO PARTICIPAR DO PROCESS0 (NÃO TER PODER DE INFLUÊNCIA OU DECISÃO NO PROCESSO, ou talvez, NÃO EVOLUIR COM O PROCESSO.)

I might be reading too much into it, but I think "on the margin" would fit the context and would create a nice picture. "Outside", though correct, is not as strong.
