describes a shot: "Plano general de la Isla"
"establishing shot occurs to me, but would that be used to describe such a very distant shot (ie not of a specific setting, but of a whole island)?

Just a suggestion to get the ball rolling. If it's not a photo, but rather a map, perhaps 'overall view/plan' may do it?

Esto es lo que lo periodistas llamamos plano general tanto para fotos como para formatos de cine o tele.
Creo que aerial view es un plano picado, no general...
