Spanish term or phrase: espatulado en raqueta
Me again!

"Spatulate": "to make a longitudinal incision in the cut end of a tubular structure and spread it open in order to increase the size of the opening for anastomosis."

Racket procedures meantime seem to refer to closure. Here's a text I found describing a urethral (not ureteral) anastomosis procedure: "the surgeon stitches the bladder in such a way, called a tennis racket procedure, so as to reduce the size of the bladder opening to fit the urethra". So it seems this refers more to the process of closing rather than opening.

I can't get my head around how both concepts in my text seem to refer to the same step, while anastomosis is mentioned as the following step.

CONTEXT:

Thanks in advance for your help!

Saludos! :)

Asker: Hola Celia y muchas gracias. :O)

By the way, make sure you have the correct translation of your term:

Uréter:
From Dorland’s Medical Dictionary:
ureter (ure·ter) (u-re´tər) [Gr. ourētēr] [TA] the fibromuscular tube that conveys the urine from the kidney to the bladder. It begins with the renal pelvis, a funnel-like dilatation, and empties into the base of the bladder. It is 40 to 46 cm long and is divided into an abdominal part (pars abdominalis) and a pelvic part (pars pelvica). See Plate 50.

Asker: Hi Liz. Thanks for the notes. Yes, it's ureteral, 100%. I was actually rushing a bit to send this in before my hols, but at the last minute the surgeons told me they had to review the whole original, so they won't be sending it in before I get back. That means I'lll be able to query them on this part when I get back and decide based on all the feedback and info. See you end Dec/New year. Rgds, Alf. ;O)
