Russian term or phrase: рыбное ассорти
Народ!

Как бы вы написали "Рыбное ассорти" в меню на английском языке ?

Assorted fish?
Mixed fish?
Fish Allsorts?
Fish medley? так мне предложил другой форум

something fishy? >:))))
Это должно быть блюдо, закуска. То есть: первое блюдо или на первое рыбное ассорти.

ОГРОМНОЕ спасибо !

English translation:Assorted fish
Explanation:
That's what you would call it if it was just a cold fish appetizer, such as sliced lox, smoked trout, eel etc. Medley ( as in Fish medley) usually means a cooked dish. Mixed fish (let alone Fish made dish) has an artificial, non-authentic feel to it, I'vbe never seen it on menus in about 15 years of eating out.

Then it's definitely not assorted fish, it's a cooked dish all right. I even know what it is, I cook Thai. My big Thai cookbook though does not have the recepe, and thus no name. Most of the fish dishe names though are descriptive. That said, how about one of the following

(Asian) Orange fish curry
(Spicy)Orange Fish Medley
Spicy Fish Stew (or stir-fry, depending on how you cook it)

I hope this helps. Bon appetit!

Thank you for the explanation. I am really not sure if I sould go for =assorted fish= because it will be cooked and served with orange peel and sauce. It sould have been Fish a la Thai, but my boss did not want to have the word "Thai" on the menue. Do you think I should leave it like "Fish medley..."
It was like that
Fish à la Thai
(smoked salmon with shrimps in orange peel and avocado dip sauce),
Or would it rather be called "Assorted fish" ?

This would contain a couple different types of fish + other seafood (shrimp, clams, calamari, etc.)

disagree  The Misha: Seafood assumes not only fish but such things as shellfish, crabs, etc.

-> As I think I've already noted. BTW, it doesn't have to contain sea products other than fish.

neutral  esperantisto: seafood, однако, это морепродукты.

-> Yet, but this is how "рыбное ассорти" is often called in American restaurants

agree  Tevah_Trans: Definitely correct in the US; also could be "seafood assortment" or "seafood sampler". You are right Alexander.
