Я лишний раз убедился: стоит тысячу раз подумать, прежде чем делать доброе дело, потому что иногда оно может выйти тебе боком.
Dear colleagues!
Помогите подыскать более разговорный перевод, чем "have unfortunate consequences for" и т.п.
Ничего в голову не лезет, вот разве что 'turn against'.
...it’s better to think a thousand times before doing a good turn, since it may turn against you.
Возможны ли еще какие-нибудь варианты?

come back to bite you
could come back to bite you
"No good deed goes unpunished."
could have unintended consequences
you choose for desired piquancy and degree of categorical statement.

"come back to bite (someone)" actually gets used in sort of contradictory circumstances, either something that looks good but might have hidden unexpected effects or a bad thing one wants to be cautious about, to brush off without making a big deal but also while avoiding other problems later.

have unfortunate side effects
This is quite close to your own suggestion, plus it includes the word "side".
The expression is basically to do with medicines, but it is used more generally too.

: As you indicate, I immediately associate this with medicines, and knowing Russian as a native, I know this is not the best match here.

: I think, it should be "it will do no good." Also, this suggest that your good deeds will cause trouble at all times, while the original suggest that this would only happen "sometimes"
