Hello,
I just got my hands on this version...I never used any CAT tool before and my question is do I have to install 2007 in order to use this one ? And professionally speaking is it relevant to have them both run on my computer or si 2009 alone sufficient ?
Thanks !
Regards,

You still need to instal the 2007 version

Hello Mohamed,
You should instal the 2007 version as well. It has some important technical components which the 2009 version needs to access.

not necessary
Oct 15, 2009
Hi Mohamed, I've just got a new computer, and instead of re-installing the 2007 version (which I found horribly unstable and unpleasant anyway), I just installed the 2009 Trados Studio. It's a completely new and independently-functioning programme - no need to install the old one. It works perfectly well, and I must say I'm surprised by what Astrid says...

yes, you need Suite 2007

Clients / agencies who do not have Studio 2009 (and that's the majority at the moment) cannot open the bilingual Studio file. If they want a bilingual file, you'll have to create a .ttx with Tag Editor (which forms part of Suite 2007) because Studio can't do this. It's a pain, but at the moment there's no other workaround with Studio.

Autosuggest activation
Oct 16, 2009
Hello Mohammed,
in order to activate the autosuggest, go to your SDL account, copy the activation code and activate it the same way you did with your Studio license.
Apart from the fact that AFAIK most agencies still use previous versions, Suite 2007 is still needed for some applications. Both run smoothly on the same machine (my experience is based on Vista SP2 32-bit), but make sure you have Suite most recent build installed

Why you might need 2007 Suite
Oct 16, 2009
Hi,
I thought it might be useful to list the reasons why 2007 is still needed. If you don't do any of these things then you probably only need to install Studio.
To upgrade legacy TM’s (Workbench or SDLX)
To be able to create a ttx from a source file as opposed to being able to work with one you have been given
To preview the native file when processing TTX files in

To preview the native file when processing TTX files in Studio (this operation only works for certain file types)
To process OpenOffice files in studio
And if you are an SDLX user who receives ITD files then to preview ITD files as the native file type
