I was wondering if anyone could guide me to the convention for transliteration Russian adjectives into English, in particular the masculine nominative ending -ый. Up till now, I've been using -yj but I'm not convinced that that is the best way. Any ideas?

The Chicago guide gives a table of accepted transliterations. It looks like they would have you write -iy.

A link that might help...

There is a transliteration table here and some links/documents at the end of the page (like: United Nations-recommended romanization system for Russian (Adobe PDF); American Library Association & Library of Congress Romanization), which you might find useful.
Thanks all for the help. -iy it shall be. It's funny, I always considered this too stupid a question to ask, but I'm glad I did. As they say, the only stupid question is the question not asked.
