Hello Gitte,

I don't quite understand. You said:

I presume that you are using a CAT tool, as the whole idea of a charging scale is futile if you don't. Then you should go with Jeff's outline, how else would you know what fuzzy matches there are in the texts?

You say that if the TS is using a CAT tool, they should use Jeff's outline. However, Jeff's outline is basically not an outline, all it amounts to is saying 'no discounts'.

Repetitions + 100% matches: 100%
75%–99%: 100%
No match–74%: 100%

Sorry if I waffled.

What I meant was that I presumed Monika was asking because she was using a CAT tool and had been asked to submit fees for various fuzzy matches. Unless she does in fact use a CAT tool, charging according to a sliding scale corresponding to different fuzzy matches would make no sense, as she would not have the benefit of drawing on a TM, i.e. she would still have to translate every single segment

Unless she does in fact use a CAT tool, charging according to a sliding scale corresponding to different fuzzy matches would make no sense, as she would not have the benefit of drawing on a TM, i.e. she would still have to translate every single segment as a 'no match' segment. In this last case, I would agree with Jeff, that Monika should not offer any discounts based on fuzzy matches.

No problemo. I understand now now.

Please don't get me wrong. I'm no fan of fuzzy discounts either, it's just that in certain cases they are kind of unavoidable, unless you can convince your client to pay you the full whack of course;)
