Hello experts,

It was mentioned by a colleague a few days ago in Wordfast forum that two Wordfast memories may be combined by opening one of the two .txt files and then pasting the text of the other memory underneath it but the merged memory file should be organized. I tried to locate the Reorganize feature in my Wordfast version (2.3.0) but in vain. Does this feature exist at all in Wordfast and if so, where can I find it?

Hello experts,

Secondly, I am curious to know whether it is possible to combine many tmxl files into one. In MS Word, we can simply do so by pasting the text of files in one another.

Thanks and regards,

Chopra

Two Wordfast memories in txt format can be merged with Wf Classic, and should be done so. Also it should be possible with an open-source tool named Olifant, with File-Import command (http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/okapitools/)

Txml files are not Tr.memories and should be kept as they are. No need to combine one with another.

If you meant TMX files, then these *.tmx files are also memories in an exchangeable format. Wordfast Classic is capable of importing TMX memories into TXT memories. Also, with the said tool Olifant, one can merge several TMX format memories into one, and clean them.

Don't forget the advantage of having separate TM-s for each project, properly named. Merging, splicing - is a annoying operation that mostly doesn't lead anywhere. Sorry.

Thanks for your reply, but... Nov 2, 2011

if someone uses Wordfast Pro only, he can not use Wordfast Classic. Please refer to the following thread:

http://www.proz.com/forum/wordfast_support/210872-combining_two_translation_memories_in_wordfast_pro.html

What is the method to reorganize?

In addition to it, I mean merging txml files which are created while translating with Wordfast Pro. I do not mean tmx files.

Regards,

Chopra

Olifant Nov 2, 2011

In my opinion you should forget about merging TM's with Wordfast and use Olifant, it is free and does many things Wordfast cannot.

Why do you want to merge the txml files, what would be the purpose?

Not at all exact. WfPro can use old TM-s from WfClassic.

What is the method to reorganize?

Reorganizing a new TM, created from several TM-s means cleaning source duplicates, target duplicates and combinations of it, cleaning extra tags, etc.

Txml file is a transitory file in translation process within WfPro. If you really need to merge several TXML files, take a look: http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/WF_PRO/message/3028 - it is possible.
