housekeeping/maintenance (department)

It's a while since I did Latin but I do vaguely remember "aedile":

"Aediles were responsible for maintenance of public buildings and regulation of public festivals..."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aedile

"Housekeeping

The Housekeeping department is responsible for the cleaning and maintaining floors for all E&G buildings on Campus as well as the Virginia Beach Higher Education Center. The team also assists with the University's recycling effort."
http://www.odu.edu/af/facilities/departments.shtml

"The Housekeeping Department is responsible for the daily upkeep of buildings. These responsibilities include garbage removal, paper recycling, moving of furniture within the same building only, replacement of light bulbs, etc."

*Cu* totul, sorry. There is also the fact that the few people who might recognise "aediles" (Latin/classics have been off the curriculum in most schools for years now) would immediately think of the Roman Empire, and might be disappointed not to find toga-clad, laurel-wreathed staff on entering!
