cut velvet

I did some search and found a couple of site talking about "cut velvet" and the process it entails. In both cases it referred to antiques pieces. Here is how they descibed the process: "Cut velvet is based on the principle of nap which is created by weaving cut fibers perpendicularly into the surface of the fabric, so as to create a raised surface". "The "cut " effect of cut velvet is created by weaving a pattern of velvet against a background of napless fabric giving the material the appareance of brocade."
So the look is that of a velvet that, in some parts, has been cut low to the base of the fiber, while in effect it is not velvet but another fabric with velvet fibers woven into it.
The only picture I found of an antique cut velvet piece of fabric is that of a Persian piece sold at an antique auction in Florence in 2008. It is described having "cut velvet in red with blue and yellow." Which coincides with the description I found of the process.
I have a scarf, bought in Venice a few years ago, that is "cut velvet" done on silk and it really looks like velvet shorn around a colored pattern.
Not having a picture to look at, I am giving myself a "medium conf. lev," while I am 100% positive that the process described is correct according to my research.
Translated word by word it would be "velvet cut against". It sounds to me like the description of the process of weaving "against" (the background)

non ti ho suggerito two-pile perchè non si sa se effettivamente i livelli creati nel pelo dopo il taglio siano due...
ti ho messo anche la ref. con "multi-pile" caso mai la ritenga più opportuna...
