German term

parketgespraech

German to English Bus/Financial Journalism development
This is the title of a regular column on current economic issues in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung - any ideas about how to translate it with humor? thank you, Cynthia

Discussion

Steffen Walter Mar 31, 2013:
Please correct the German glossary entry The correct spelling is Parkettgespräch (mind the noun capitalisation and the umlaut).
Wolf Draeger Mar 25, 2013:
Insider's view From what I can tell, the column discusses a particular subject from the perspective of some trader, investor or analyst - not necessarily floor traders, but financial actors in general. So maybe a suitable title would be something that conveys the sense of getting an "inside view" into markets or particular issues.

For e.g.: "Inside story", "Of Bulls and Bears", something with "exchange", etc.
Cynthia Whitehead (asker) Mar 22, 2013:
You are all great! Thank you very much. I'm new to economic translation. Cynthia

Market whispers

Makes clear what this is about (without being too blunt) while emphasizing column's insightful (exclusive) value. There's nothing wrong with translating the concept of "Gespräch" but it's not crucial here..
Peer comment(s):

agree dkfmmuc : Think this is great! Clearly marks the fact that this trading floor talk also includes rumours, opinions etc.

Good point. Thanks, dkfmmuc!

Take the floor

comes to mind
Peer comment(s):

agree Steffen Walter : The trading floor, to be precise (cf. "Börsenparkett").
3 mins
Thanks Steffen, you're right, of course!
neutral Helen Shiner : To take the floor generally means the dancefloor in the UK at least.

In AE it means to speak in a debate or in congress, etc. But there are much better suggestions here anyway!
neutral 784512 (X) : With Helen. Too ambiguous, sorry.

Don't worry, be happy, Rose, you're right!

German term (edited): Parkettgespräch

from the trading floor

The articles are serious pieces about financial market trends, so humour is not required. A Parkett is a trading floor - I don't think "floor" alone covers it.

Note from asker:
good and clear.
Peer comment(s):

agree Steffen Walter : I agree entirely (see also my comment on Ramey's answer).
