What's my deal?

Mine is the real deal, and each suit is trump. Clubs, I'm good at what I do. More important, I'm always learning, because no matter how good you are, you can always be better. Hearts, I love what I do. Translation is my trade, not my job. Every project, no matter how big or small, straightforward or challenging, is a meaningful endeavour and a chance for me to be in my element. So I give it my best and my all. Spades, I'm insatiably curious and omnivorous. Few subjects don't interest me, and though I focus on my areas of specialization, I love nothing more than to dive into a new topic or branch of knowledge. Diamonds, I'm artful but no dodger. Honesty and reliability are for me a matter of principle, not just good business. I'm old-fashioned that way.

What's my craft?

If you're reading this, you already know. To be more specific, I bring words to life. Far from shifting linguistic units back and forth across an equal sign, translation involves understanding information, ideas and intentions in one language and conveying them in another. What is being said—and what is being meant? To what end? It is about making sense of the mind and will behind a text.

What's my style?

Good composition is my style, and style is my stock-in-trade. Whether creative and imaginative or plain and simple, fun and playful or neutral and serious, my writing is always clear and careful. This is something I spend a lot of time working on. Translators must be able to express what they interpret in a cogent manner, which requires a sense for meaning and strong writing skills.

All very well. What do I have to show for it?

Over the years I have translated hundreds of thousands of words—if not well over a million—in various fields. Top of the list are marketing, business, finance and accounting followed closely by food & drink and fashion. I have also subtitled numerous films and documentaries and am itching to get my hands on fiction and nonfiction work.

Some of my more memorable projects:

 - Translating marketing and technical content for a top champagne estate as well as for several wine estates
 - Translating creative marketing and promotional material for craft beer (see portfolio)
 - Proofreading the website of an international clothing brand and translating a companion website
 - Translating and proofreading the website of a software developer
 - Translating the graphic charter and in-house magazine of an international airline
 - Subtitling a comic opera for television (see portfolio)
 - Translating erotic pulp fiction (no kidding)

I have also worked on:

 - Business presentations, business plans, all manner of reports
 - Marketing and promotional material, advertising content
 - PR material (e.g. newsletters, magazines)
 - Corporate documents (e.g. in-house documents, press releases)
 - Annual reports, financial statements, prospectuses, trader notes and analyses
 - Manuals, guides, handbooks
 - Minutes
 - Menus, recipes and foodstuff descriptions

Check out my sample translations in the portfolio section above, and don't hesitate to ask for a free test or sample.
