: Yes, in the olden days we'd probably have said 'cellophane'

Comment: "Though technically 'cellophane' is what it means here (also cling film etc) it seemed to me not quite upmarket enough for individually wrapped sugar clusters so this is what I used. Thank you everyone for your efforts"

poche(tte) plastique

so that would be "wrapping plastic" in EN

Maybe film plastique is more adapted

: Hi Sébastien. Yr ref is about horticulture. I think that the thing here is, as you say, looking to add value/perceived value. If it was it would, S, but in fact if you look at Heading its "sugar lumps" (for the table)

aren't there talking about sugar cane in the question ? Maybe film plastique is more adapted

: It just means a transparent plastic wrapper; it specifically mentions 'individually wrapped', so I don't think 'pochette' is really applicable; and do just let's note in passing that Asker did request the translation into ENGLISH ;-)

pergamyn paper
This is just a guess but could it be wrapped in Pergamyn paper which is transparent, unbuffered, wood-free, chlorine and acid-free paper?

If it's not paper, maybe it's cellophane which is indeed crystal clear?

: Nothing to suggest that 'film' = paper of any kind

Yes, it was my first thought because paper and cardboard are usually used for sugar packaging. I still think cellophane is probably what is meant.

Clingfilm or Cling-wrap or Saran Wrap
The term is used differently in UK, Australia and USA for these commonly known brands of plastic wrap

cellophane
Even though 'cellophane' was originally ®, like 'hoover' it has passed into UK EN usage as a generic (don't know about AE?)
Seems to me this is the most explicit and least clumsy way to explain what it is.

Credit where credit's due, and indeed, it was of course EJP who first suggested this in her/his 'added note' — which unfortunately I hadn't read when I posted this! That's one of the disadvantages of 'added notes' — it's all too easy to gloss over them!

Thanks, EJP! Yes, indeed, and I thought it was important enough to justify an answer to itself. If you'd care to hide your original answer and re-post this, I'd be happy to delete my own answer.
