jyuan_us Jun 3, 2004:
Thank you Wenjer. It's a meanful debate and a process of learning for all of us.
Wenjer Leuschel (X) Jun 3, 2004:
jyuan_us: Thank you for your explanation. Actually, I was thinking of the same thing as you do and I was to change "Subject" to "Scope." Anyway, "Content" is all right. Keep it simple and understandable, that's our job.
jyuan_us Jun 2, 2004:
Wenjer Leuschel: you are talking about a textbook about financial management. But what Lai is translating is about practices, about what finance management folks do in their real work. ̿""Ĺ"" ȫ¡
jyuan_us Jun 2, 2004:
It's mind-buggling. scope of work? areas covered? if you want to put it in a question, it will be much easier, e.g.
what does financial management cover? what is FM consist of? What constitute FM?
Wenjer Leuschel (X) Jun 2, 2004:
I would say, it's ok with content, but how about subject?
So, the Introduction in(to) Financial Management includes the Subject, the Objective, Linkage/Relevance and Environment of Financial Management.
How about that?
Chinoise Jun 2, 2004:
Agree.
jyuan_us Jun 2, 2004:
just use content.

a procedure is made up of a series of 环节, 是所有环节的总体, thus, \"procedure\" is not what you want here. You want 具体的环节。

环节在这里 means 做事的步骤。 a procedure = \"A chain of tasks/activities/things to do\" in a procedure. the components of the chain are your 环节.

Your procedure is financial management. your 环节 is the steps in financial management.

literially 环 a loop, a circle; 节 points/nodes on the loop/circle.

An approximate analogy is the 经络系统, 如果整个系统是Financial Management, 穴位就是环节。

I don\'t want to make things complicated. All the sugguested words somehow reflect the sense in the original. However, \"link\" might be confusing because it has been too much used in the context of \"link bewteen websites\". If you use \" links in financial management\" , it makes me think of the linking of financial management to other fields or other parties, for example, industry or government.

Key Points

Well, my understanding would be "Key Points."
Links or Joints or Steps or Procedures can also be all right.
The most important thing in translation is to make sense, consistent sense.
So, you are free to make your choice, just to make your translation making sense.

finanical management linkage
I found management linkage on google, but not sure if it is the term you are looking for. If you take 财务管理的环节 out of your context, it basically means the key components/points of financial management. But if it refers to a course, it might have another meaning.
Peer comment(s):

agree Wenjer Leuschel (X) : Plausible. How about Relevance?
