Modernamente, el desarrollo del skills lab o clinical skills lab (centro de simulación [clínica]) ha hecho posible la adquisición de habilidades o destrezas clínicas lejos del paciente, durante los años de formación preclínica en la facultad. ● medical skills lab (centro de simulación médica), surgical skills lab (centro de simulación quirúrgica), vet skills lab (centro de simulación veterinaria).
Estas prácticas de simulación (también llamadas en inglés skills labs; → labs 2) pueden hacerlas los alumnos de asignaturas preclínicas, pero también los de asignaturas clínicas, los médicos residentes e incluso los médicos especialistas que se apuntan voluntariamente a algún curso o cursillo de capacitación!.
